Seal Beach and Rossmoor are among the most mortgage-free towns in Orange County, according to a new report based on Census Bureau housing data and cited in Jonathan Lansner’s real estate column in the OC Register
Per an analysis of 2012-2016 Census Bureau housing data, an average 27.4 percent of the county’s 581,506 owner-occupied residences did not have a mortgage on their property. Statewide, 27.8 percent of owners live mortgage-free. Inyo County was tops with 53.5 percent free and clear; San Benito County was lowest at 22.5 percent.
Laguna Woods and Seal Beach were ranked No. 1 and 2, both around 70% no-mortgage stats — thanks in no small measure to the Leisure World communities in both towns. Rossmoor was ranked No. 8 at 31.6%
