Philanthropic youth to be awarded at 2019 A Night Among the Stars ceremony

Eleven philanthropic community youth volunteers will shine at the 2019 A Night Among the Stars awards ceremony on Jan. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Youth Center in Los Alamitos.

Three will be awarded $500 scholarships through the Youth Center. All nominees will receive certificates of recognition and letters of recommendation. A separate $500 “Courage in Volunteering” scholarship will be presented by the Rotary Club.

“Our community thrives because of these outstanding youth volunteers who selflessly give of their efforts and energies to make the world a better place,” said Youth Center Executive Director Lina Lumme. “This is their night to shine!”

All nominees have made a positive impact and difference in the lives of people in and around the local community by freely giving of their time and talents. Each was nominated by their respective agencies and organizations where they volunteered many hours improving the lives of others. It is The Youth Center’s goal to recognize stellar achievement by youth in the community.

Nominees for this year’s awards recognition ceremony and their nominating agencies include:

  • Kaylie Matthews – Los Alamitos resident – The Youth Center
  • Vivian Ramirez – Anaheim resident – Grateful Hearts
  • Darren Deutsch – Long Beach resident – Los Alamitos High School
  • Valerio Guercio – Los Alamitos resident – Casa Youth Shelter
  • Julia Dillenbeck – Huntington Beach resident – Village Bible Academy Leo Club
  • Rebecca Gomez – Seal Beach resident – Seal Beach Leo Club
  • Rory Lowdermilk – Long Beach resident – Girl Scouts
  • Rosslyn Lyell – Bellflower resident – LAVP & Girl Scouts
  • Hallie Alcantar – Seal Beach resident – Be the Good
  • Cheryl Godbee – Cerritos resident – Youth Center Leo’s Club
  • Madison Godbee – Cerritos resident – Youth Center Leo’s Club
