The 2017 softball season which ended with the Los Alamitos Griffins ranked No. 1 in the CIF-Southern Section and the nation wasn’t too shabby for coach Rob Weil either as he earned Coach of the Year honors from multiple organizations.

Weil was first named the 2016-17 American Family Insurance USA Today Coach of the Year  and then followed that up a few days later with Coach of the Year honors on the OC Register’s All-County team, the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Dream Team and the All-CIF Division I squad.

This was Weil’s first CIF title in his nine years at Los Alamitos but he won five while helming the Pacifica Mariners in his hometown of Garden Grove. Weil also attended Pacifica High School and was an all-CIF goalkeeper on the school’s boys soccer team.

The Griffins finished the season with a 28-3 record, and will be graduating 17 seniors who will be going on to play softball in college.
