Former Griffin alum (LAHS ’12) Rachel Fattal scored a game high five goals in a 14-9 win over Russia, to help propel the USA Women’s National Team into the championship game of the 2017 FINA water polo championships which are being held n Budapest, Hungary.
With the U.S. down 2-0 against an upstart Russian squad, Fattal went on a tear, scoring four of her five goals in about nine minutes as the U.S. scored 11 goals in the opening half to silence Russia.

Fattal, who was a standout in both volleyball and water polo during her Griffin days, was most recently an All-American at UCLA and a member of the Olympic gold-medal winning USA water polo team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She had scored one goal in the team’s 7-5 win over Australia in the quarter-final match.
The USA Women will look to add to their World Championship title won in 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2015. They were the first women’s water polo nation to win four FINA World Championships. For more on the FINA World Championships, click here.
