With increased participation, The Youth Center’s 3rd Annual “Golf for Kid’s Sake” golf tournament with the support of several local community sponsors on July 13 at Recreation Park Golf Course raised funds for the award-winning nonprofit’s After School Program and Camp SHARP scholarships. Special awards were given to the various teams and contest winners.
“It turned out to be a smashing success!” said Youth Center Board Member and Golf Chairman Arnie Fine. “This year it was wonderful to see increased participation from our youth along with some fine ladies who joined us.”
Fine said on the golf course support from local establishments including Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Doc’s Pies, Jimmy John’s, Bai Antioxidant infused beverages and Body Armour beverages, that they greatly added to the success of the tournament. Other sponsors included the Garden’s Casino, 19th Hole Production, Lion’s Club, CellMark, YH Advisors, Braithwaite Chiropractic, Phillips Steel, MedPost Urgent Care, Ganahl Lumber and Elite One Mortgage.
“We can’t thank enough our local businesses who joined us as sponsors, players, and volunteers who joined us in making our golf tournament a hit!” said Youth Center Executive Director Lina Lumme. “Under the leadership of Arnie Fine, we were able to raise valuable funds for our tutoring program and school supplies for our After School Program kids, and we look forward to this event in years to come.”
This year the low scoring team was actually shared by two teams with scores of 55 which was 17 under par, explained Fine. The winner was decided based upon the team having the most birdies, with the other team coming in second place. First place winners on Team Lion’s included players Vic Grgas, Josh Muller, Ray Longoria and Jim Creighton. Coming in second place was Team Phillip’s Steel including Geoff Larson, Jeff Moreland, Tony Ceron and Scott Harrell. Third place winners included Luie Rodgriguez, Paul Traughber, Bryan Schroeder and Peter Odorico. Last place winners were Lawrence Enright, Shane Johnson, Gary Stern and Mark Stone.
“I think everyone enjoyed the various contests that we had on the course,” said Fine. Contest winners included Mark Ruiz for putting, Paul Lussman for straightest drive, and Jeff Moreland for closest to the pin with Jim Crighton the golf buddy winner.
“On behalf of all of us at The Youth Center I would like to thank everyone involved with this tournament for their support which will significantly impact the programs that The Youth Center offers,” said Lumme. “Hope to see you all next year!”
