Banging drums and shouting slogans, protesters against the recently-enacted ordinance exempting the City from SB-54, (The California Values Act, also known as the sanctuary state law) marched on Katella Avenue at the corner of Bloomfield on May 1.
The group, most of which were brought in by buses, came from from the local SEIU (Service Employees International Union) United Service Workers West headquarters in Orange. The labor union represents workers in the fields of health care, public services, and property services. The marchers carried signs and flags with a variety of messages, such as “Celebrate Diversity,” “En Defensa De Santuario” (In Defense of Sanctuary), and “I ♥ my neighborhood Los Alamitos.”
