LOS ALAMITOS: Council to hold special meeting on Voting by district

The Los Alamitos City Council will hold a special meeting at the Council Chambers on Friday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m, but most of the work will be done in closed session to consider existing and anticipated litigation.

One item is probably the lawsuit filed two days after the Council gave final approval of an ordinance to opt out of SB 54, the California Values Act. That suit was filed by clergy at the Community Congregational Church and by a local attorney.

The majority of discussion will be about a new pending lawsuit demanding Los Alamitos change from its long-practiced at large voting to a voting by district system, which theoretically eliminates discrimination against minority demographics.

More details are available at the OC-Breeze and the complete agenda is at the Los Alamitos City website.
