COASTLINE: Long Beach Releases Options for LB Breakwater

Some options could change local surfing options

Long Beach officials unveiled six possible options to improve the ecosystem along the city’s coastline, with at least two of the options impacting local surfers by removing parts of the breakwater and restoring waves to Long Beach’s coastline.

The plan, (officially called East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration Study and developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in collaboration with the city and other partners) provides six options to restore and improve the coast.  Missing from the plan though was a proposal by local surf advocates to remove the entire 2.2-mile breakwater which officials said “would not be feasible.” The complete story in the Long Beach Post is here.
