The Los Al Griffins Girls Volleyball team downed Trabuco Hills 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16) to win its seventh CIF-Southern Section volleyball championship Saturday night at Cerritos College.
The Griffins’ were led by their outside hitters, with junior Abby Karich and sophomore Starr Williams garnering 18 and 14 kills, respectively. The Utah-bound Karich earned Most Valuable Player honors for her play while Williams hit with 35.5% accuracy.
Los Al earned their berth in the finals by defeating top-seeded Aliso Niguel then downed Notre Dame while Trabuco downed second-seeded Corona del Mar. Los Alamitos has won six CIF-SS girls volleyball championships. Abby Karich, a junior, leads the Griffins with 510 kills. Trabuco Hills is trying for its second section girls volleyball championship. Senior outside hitter Kendall Anselmo has a team-high 306 kills.
