GIRLS SOCCER:  Los Alamitos 1, Villa Park 1

The Los Al girls rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie Villa Park in the first round of the Mater Dei Invitational in Santa Ana.  

The Griffins evened the game in the 42nd minute on a corner kick from Analisa Gjonovich. After Jayden Newkirk kicked it off the keeper, sophomore defender Khalia Cathwright followed up for the goal. 

Los Al returns to the pitch today at 4:30 against Hamilton, Arizona.  

GIRLS BB:   Los Al 66, Valley Christian 25

Los Al ended up its two game loss streak at the Spartan Classic with a strong 66-25 win over Valley Christian. 

The Griffins were again led by sophomore center/forward Lataviah Miller with 23 points and 7 rebounds, and junior point guard Sydney Gandy who had 21 pts, 9 assists, and 8 steals.  Sophomore forward Sumya Evans added 12 pts and 10 rebounds.

The Griffins improved their record to 8-3 and  return to the court Saturday to wrap up the Spartan Classic.  Their opponent is to be determined.  

BOYS BB:  Loyola 66,  Los Alamitos 48

The young Griffins took a hard hit in second round action at the St. John Bosci Tournament, losing 66-48 to a strong Loyola squad.  Los Al fell behind early, trailing 18-7 after the first quarter and 42-17 at halftime.   

Sophomore center Everett May led the Griffins with 13 points, while junior David Olcomendy scored 12.

Los Al (3-5) returns to action this afternoon against Rancho Dominguez. Game time is 4:30.  

BOYS WP:  Jackson Lawrence named Wave League MVP; Beckett, Nash & Chang make first team

The Boys Water Polo team passed out a passel of certificates and plaques at  its recent awards banquet.

The Boys Water Polo team poses en masse at their end-of-season banquet earlier this week.

The 2018 Wave Conference All-League teams were also recently announced.  Griffin senior Jackson Lawrence was named
Player of the Year, while making the first team were Beckett Millar, Otto Nash, and Gabe Chang; Daniel Mori and Jack Ryan made the second team.
