For Los Al sports it was the best of times and the worst of times.
The Griffin baseball team(18-7) advanced to the CIF Division II quarterfinals, thanks to Zach Peters’ bat and a complete-game three-hitter from the mound in a 2-1 road victory over El Dorado. The Griffins now host Bonita, 3-0 winners over Ocean View, in Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinal match.
Peters helped his own cause by doubling home Zech Samoya in the top of the first, and then scored from second on Jakob Voge’s single in the sixth. Then in the seventh, with the tying run at second with no outs, Peters got a ground out (on a good backhand play by shortstop A.J. Cappell) and a strikeout to preserve the win. The OC Register has more.
The sports gods (and the Griffin opponents) were not as kind to the Los Al softball team which fell 15-1 to No. 1 ranked Norco. Norco was seeking vengeance, and apparently still smarting from earlier in the season when Los Al handed them their only loss, an 8-4 setback on March 23 Norco, ranked No 1 in the nation and the CIF, scored five in the top of the first and never looked back.
