The Republic Services Team assisted an elderly Los Alamitos resident with a landscape and gardening project on Friday, June 18 as part of Serve Los Al. Los Alamitos residents ages 50 years and older can make a request for themselves or from a neighbor/family member to seek assistance with exterior light home repair, painting, or minor to moderate landscaping needs through the City of Los Alamitos via www.servelosal.org. City staff matches requests with willing and available volunteers to assist in projects year-round and through the Serve Los Al event which is scheduled for September 10 through 11, 2021.
Republic Services has volunteered with Serve Los Al for the past three years, assisting older adult resident landscaping projects and at Casa Youth Shelter. Oftentimes, the senior residents are unable to complete the tasks themselves and these projects provide a wonderful opportunity for volunteers in the community to give back and help a resident in need.
The City of Los Alamitos also holds a donation drive each summer for backpacks and school supplies to donate to the Los Alamitos based non-profit organizations. The local non-profits receive donations and distribute them to families in need in the community. Area Municipal Manager Manuel Gouveia from Republic Services arrived to the Los Alamitos Community Center with 25 backpacks from the Republic Services Team to contribute to the donation drive. Republic Services is a community-oriented organization that believes in giving back and connecting to its residents, and are appreciated for their dedication to Los Alamitos.
