Long time local softball coach John Felicetti passes away at age 73

John Felicetti
March 29, 1947 – February 1, 2021

John Vincent Felicetti passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Seal Beach, CA, on February 1, 2021. He was 73 years old. Born March 29, 1947, in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the oldest son of John and Carmela Felicetti.
John graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1965. After graduating from Seton Hall University in 1969, he earned a Master’s Degree from Niagara University.
John was a beloved history teacher and basketball coach at St Joseph’s Catholic School before moving to Dallas, TX, in 1977. After working in restaurant management in Dallas, he moved to Southern California where he worked in the software/hospitality industry. Upon retiring, he served as coach for the girls’ softball teams at Los Alamitos, CA, and Cypress, CA, high schools, mentoring young athletes.
John had a passion for sports, especially baseball and was a life-long fan of the New York Yankees. He volunteered for over 20 years for the USA Softball Association where he served as a District Commissioner for Southern California. He was a well-respected and much-loved member of his community in addition to being a kind, humble son, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. He will be truly missed.
John is survived by his sisters, Teresa (Bill) Dutton of San Diego, CA, and Phyllis (Michael) Berrigan of Alexandria, VA. He is also survived by his nieces, Alexandra Felicetti (Michael Zaleski) of West Orange, NJ, goddaughter, Carmen Dutton of Chicago, IL, Dr. Margaret “Maggie” Berrigan of Boston, MA; nephew, Michael Berrigan, Jr. of Washington, DC; and great-nephew, Jack Zaleski of West Orange, NJ. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, James “Jim” Felicetti.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish, 1413 Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls. Following the mass, John’s cremains, as well as the cremains of his brother, Jim, will be interred with their parents at St Joseph’s Cemetery.
The softball association has established an annual scholarship in John’s memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to USA Softball of Southern California, c/o Lorrie Ivie, 7381 Pheasant Run Road, Riverside, CA 92509.
