GRIFFIN SPORTS: After Covid forfeit win, Griffin Boys BB to play Chapparal in Tustin finals

The Los Al Griffins Boys basketball team will play Chapparl tonight for the championship of the Tustin Basketball Tournament.  Game time is 6 pm.

The Griffins, who had won their first two games over Woodbridge and Espernaza, got a day-off win when Covid protocols forced San Clemente to withdraw from their tournament.  Chapparal of temecula advanced via a 52-46 win over Laguna Beach

Los Al, under first-year coach Nate Berger, brings an 11-4 mark into the championship game.  Chaparral is 11-2.

Girls Soccer will play Troy in their final non-league game this afternoon.

The Griffins are coming off a disappointing showing at the Excalibur Tournament.  They fell to eventual tourney finalist Capo Valley 2-1 in Monday’s opener, then tied Etiwanda 1-1 on Monday night but lost the penalty kick shootout.  In Tuesday’s consolation game, the Griffins took out their frustrations with a 5-1 win.  Mimi Abusham had four goals.
